  5. IMPOSTER 0.95 - New Version of Windows 3.0 Product

  7. Freeware author Darrell Burgan has introduced a new version of his
  8. IMPOSTER command-line interface for Microsoft Windows 3.0-3.1.  This
  9. product offers the best of both worlds for Windows users--the speed
  10. and convenience of a command-line with the elegance and access to
  11. superior applications provided by Microsoft Windows.

  13. IMPOSTER supports every internal command in DOS 5.0 as well as most
  14. external commands and offers functionality not present in any
  15. competing product.  It is capable of launching both DOS and Windows
  16. programs and offers the additional ability to execute any standard DOS
  17. batch file without launching a copy of DOS.  IMPOSTER's emulation of
  18. COMMAND.COM is so close that users may forget they're not running DOS
  19. at all--just a carefully crafted Windows program that emulates DOS as
  20. closely as possible.

  22. Also, IMPOSTER supports many commands usually found in third-party
  23. packages such as Symantec's Norton Utilities - commands that can
  24. search ASCII files for a text string, to search all directories for a
  25. file, and to calculate the disk space used by a list of files, etc.

  27. Unlike a DOS window, which consumes as much as 640K of memory at all
  28. times, IMPOSTER uses much less memory, allowing the user to run
  29. IMPOSTER at all times without sacrificing scarce free RAM or free
  30. system resources.

  32. New features in version 0.95 include an integrated help system with
  33. command-specific help recall, support for aliases, mouse support, and
  34. many other smaller enhancements to provide even closer emulation of
  35. COMMAND.COM.
